Scents and Sonics of the Ocean: Live Demonstration at DOS 2024

Perfumer Yosh Han, from YOSH Olfactory Sense, USA, will showcase a demonstration during the 8th Digital Olfaction Society Annual Meeting on December 5-6, 2024: Scents and Sonics of the Ocean: Multi Sensorial Traces of Lost and Recovered Memories of Sapelo Island. This demonstration offers a multisensorial exploration of Sapelo Island’s landscapes, history, and culture.

Highlights of the demonstration include:

• Three custom-developed scent accords:
  • COAST: Capturing the essence of the Atlantic Ocean, shell rings, and coastal aromas.
  • MARSH: Evoking salt marshes, wet soil, and cordgrass.
  • FOREST: Inspired by Sapelo’s vibrant vegetation, including live oaks and magnolia.
• Immersive soundscapes: Crafted from the molecular data of these scents, seamlessly blending science and art.

This innovative presentation showcases the intersection of olfactory science, sound design, and cultural storytelling, inspired by the Gullah-Geechee heritage and the ecological significance of Sapelo Island.
